SEAFOOD ON THE ROAD and apakah yang ku sembah?

Using thread, fabric, wood, acrylic paint. Variable dimension 2022

The story is that this work was made in Siku Terpadu and displayed together with the work of Siku Keluang in the National Gallery of Indonesia, of course I was embarrassed. Thank you Serbuk Kayu and Lumbung Indonesia and Pekan Kebudayaan Nasional.

First of all, the banner in the style of a Pinisi sail with the words SEAFOOD ON THE ROAD. The story is more or less about the funny Psychogeosyntactic contradiction, SEAFOOD or Sari Laut is sold on the street, but if the sea product has to be sold at sea, right? Not really. Even so, the textual humor and appearance may also trivially twist memories of land road infrastructure that has been a development priority since the era of garden extraction to the current minerals. In short, the flow of urbanization leads to the speed of travel, forming shops, cities, and five-legged traders darting everywhere, faster than horses. Why not just sell food in the sea? The problem is that fish know how to swim, eat, and always skip school. That’s the culture of fish, we humans.

The second prayer mat, “apakah yang ku sembah?” More or less the same about the changes in the city landscape, specifically the city that is increasingly jutting out to sea, what are the elements that make up and support it socially, politically, economically, religiously and culturally. What are the things that humans worship so that the machine of Desire continues to manifest. Okay, because I always fail to capture the objective with writing, then let the verbal and fleeting become messages and impressions in the encounter. Some say that longing is about remembering and forgetting, uploading and downloading.
